When compliance is non-negotiable, experience matters. Joyce brings four decades of nursing expertise and 20+ years as an AHA-certified instructor to every dental session.
With 40+ years as a Registered Nurse, Joyce understands the emergencies that happen in dental chairs — from vasovagal syncope to angina to anaphylaxis. She doesn't teach from a script — she teaches from four decades of clinical experience responding to real patient emergencies.
Unlike large certification mills that cycle hundreds of students through assembly-line classes, The Pulse Place keeps groups small (max 9 per session) so every dental team member gets hands-on practice time with real-time feedback from a clinician who has been there.
The Illinois Dental Practice Act (225 ILCS 25) is unambiguous: every dentist, dental hygienist, and dental assistant must maintain current BLS certification with a hands-on skills component. This is not a recommendation — it is a licensure requirement enforced by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).
What many practices discover too late is that online-only CPR courses do not satisfy this requirement. A fully online course with no in-person skills check will not be accepted during license renewal. The Act specifically requires demonstration of physical skills — chest compressions, rescue breathing, and AED operation performed in person under instructor supervision.
Non-compliance carries serious consequences. An expired or invalid BLS certification can result in delayed license renewal, disciplinary investigation, or conditional licensure status. In a civil liability context, a dental emergency resulting in patient harm where staff lacked valid BLS training is a significant exposure. Illinois plaintiffs' attorneys routinely request BLS certification records in dental malpractice discovery.
The Illinois Dental Practice Act ties BLS certification to the 3-year license renewal cycle and allows BLS training to count toward 4 of the 48 CE credit hours required for renewal. The Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) also accepts AHA certification for CDA credential maintenance.
The Pulse Place delivers AHA Healthcare Provider BLS — the specific level required by IDFPR — on-site at your practice, before or after patient hours, with same-day eCards that are immediately reportable to your CE tracking system. One two-hour morning session, your entire team compliant, zero patient disruption.
"We had all 7 staff certified before our first patient of the morning. Joyce brought everything, ran the whole session, and our eCards were in our inbox before 9 AM. I've already referred two other practices."
"I didn't realize our online BLS course wouldn't count for renewal until I called IDFPR. The Pulse Place got all five of our hygienists compliant in one session — without disrupting a single appointment."
